HOME OF THE SPARROW

Home of the Sparrow provides housing and supportive services to homeless and low-income women seeking to improve their lives and become self-sufficient. Programs include the Transitional Housing Program, the Supportive Housing Program, which provides service to women and children on the brink of homelessness, the Shared Housing Program, the Graduate Outreach Program, and the Emergency Solutions Program. Each program has a direct focus on supporting families through a crisis in their lives while helping them learn to continue their successes on their own.

Why This Project Matters

Northern, Eastern, Western, and Southern Chester County

Chester County is the wealthiest county in our Commonwealth and among the top 25 wealthiest in the country. However, there are pockets of poverty and near-poverty in every zip code. We may not see those who suffer from lack of unemployment, domestic violence, and compromised mental and physical health - but they are among us. And many are women, often with children, who have become homeless or are teetering on the brink of losing their homes. While receiving support from Home of the Sparrow, women are able to advance or continue their educations and increase their earnings potential. Programs directly served more than 303 women and children last fiscal year.

24% of female-headed households with children under 18 lived below the poverty line.
