The Downingtown Area Senior Center enriches the lives of over 1,000 senior women by providing access to a multitude of information and services to help them remain independent and active members of their communities. Services provided include providing nutritious meals, one-on-one counseling services, and health and wellness classes.

According to the 2005-2009 American Community Survey of the 486,301 residents in Chester County, 12% are over the age of65 and 41% of seniors live alone. A 2008 study in Pennsylvania found that activity participation is essential to quality of life and has important life benefits. Benefits include reducing the risk of depress, reducing global cognitive decline, and enhancing social connectedness. The study also found that the role of senior centers will continue to expand and have an increasing impact on structuring the quality of life of older adults. Programs at the Downingtown Area Senior Center are targeted to benefit older residents in Chester County to foster self-reliance and wellness.
